Compare the folded dimensions, total weight, wheel size, rider height range and load limit. Think about where you will store it and how often you will lift it. A bike that folds small may still be heavy to carry.

Many models have removable batteries, but the position and removal method vary. Check the product details for battery removal and the weight information provided. Follow the instructions when removing, carrying and refitting the battery.

Measure your available space and compare it with the bike's folded dimensions, allowing room for pedals and handlebars. Transport operators set their own rules for bikes and batteries, so check the relevant operator's current policy before travelling.

Check hinges, locking catches and folding joints regularly according to the bike's instructions. They should close securely without unwanted movement. If a joint is loose, damaged or difficult to lock, have it checked before riding.
