The Xiaomi M365 and M365 Pro remain among the most widely used electric scooters in the UK. As these models get older, common problems include punctures, reduced battery range, worn brakes, loose folding mechanisms, damaged cables and electrical error codes.
This guide covers safe owner-level checks, likely causes of common Xiaomi M365 faults and the warning signs that mean the scooter should not be used until it has been professionally inspected.
- the folding mechanism, stem or handlebars feel loose;
- the brake lever reaches the handlebar or braking performance has deteriorated;
- a tyre is flat, split, bulging or separating from the rim;
- the motor cable or other wiring is damaged or exposed;
- the battery becomes swollen, damaged, unusually hot or produces an unusual smell or sound;
- there are burn marks, melted connectors, smoke or signs of overheating; or
- the scooter has suffered significant impact damage or water ingress.

Checks to Perform Before Every Use
Carry out these checks while the scooter is switched off and disconnected from its charger:
- Tyres: Check the pressure and look for cuts, embedded objects, bulges, exposed casing or excessive wear.
- Brakes: The lever should feel firm and should not pull completely to the handlebar.
- Folding mechanism: Confirm that the latch closes correctly and that the stem has no unusual movement.
- Throttle: Make sure it moves freely and returns immediately when released.
- Wheels: Check that both wheels are secure and have no severe drag or side-to-side movement.
- Cables: Look for pinched, stretched, split or exposed wiring, particularly near the stem and front motor.
- Lights and reflectors: Confirm that they are present, secure and working.
- Charging port: Keep the protective cover closed and ensure that the port is dry and undamaged.
Xiaomi M365 Will Not Switch On
Connect the correct approved Xiaomi-compatible charger to a working wall socket. Inspect the charging plug and the scooter’s external charging port without inserting tools, wire or metal objects.
If the scooter has been stored with an empty battery for a prolonged period, the battery may have become deeply discharged. A battery, battery-management system, dashboard, controller or wiring fault can also leave the scooter completely unresponsive.
Xiaomi M365 Will Not Charge
On an original-style Xiaomi charger, the indicator is normally green when powered but not charging, red while charging and green again when charging is complete. Charger behaviour can vary with replacements, so consult the instructions supplied with the exact charger.
- Check the wall socket using another suitable appliance.
- Inspect the charger casing, cable and plug for cuts, heat damage or bent contacts.
- Make sure the scooter and charging port are completely dry.
- Allow an unusually hot or cold scooter to return naturally to a normal indoor temperature.
- Check whether the charging plug fits securely without being forced.
Use only the correct charger approved for the scooter. A plug that physically fits does not prove that the voltage, polarity and charging characteristics are compatible.
If the charger indicator does not illuminate, stays green when connected, behaves unusually or becomes excessively hot, disconnect it. The charger, port, wiring, battery or battery-management system may require testing.
Scooter Powers On but Does Not Accelerate
The standard M365 system normally uses kick-start operation. The scooter usually needs to be moving at approximately 5km/h before the throttle engages. Test this only in a clear, controlled area on private land.
If it still does not accelerate:
- check the display or beep sequence for an error code;
- confirm that the throttle moves freely and returns when released;
- check that the brake lever returns fully to its normal position;
- look for visible damage to the motor cable near the front wheel; and
- restart the scooter once, but do not repeatedly reset or operate it if the fault returns.
A failed throttle, brake sensor, dashboard, motor Hall sensor, controller or wiring connection normally requires professional electrical diagnosis.
Xiaomi M365 Error Codes and Beeping
The M365 can report faults through a displayed number or a combination of long and short beeps. One long beep represents ten and each short beep represents one. For example, one long beep followed by four short beeps indicates error 14.
Record the code before switching the scooter off. Our Xiaomi M365 and M365 Pro error-code guide explains common throttle, brake, motor, battery, controller and communication faults.
Low Range, Poor Acceleration or Loss of Power
Reduced range does not automatically mean that the battery has failed. Common causes include:
- underinflated tyres;
- cold weather;
- steep gradients and repeated acceleration;
- higher rider or luggage weight;
- a dragging brake or damaged wheel bearing; and
- an ageing or unbalanced battery pack.
Check the tyre pressure and, with the scooter switched off, confirm that the wheels are not obstructed or suffering from severe brake drag. Some range variation is normal, but a sudden reduction, unexpected shutdown or rapidly falling battery display should be investigated.
Tyre Pressure, Punctures and Wheel Problems
Low tyre pressure allows the inner tube to move and pinch against the tyre, increasing puncture risk. It also increases rolling resistance and can reduce range.
Do not ride with a flat tyre, damaged sidewall, exposed casing, bulge or loose wheel. Xiaomi M365 tyre replacement can be physically demanding, and incorrect installation may damage the inner tube, motor cable, wheel fasteners or brake alignment.
Brake Problems and Brake Noise
The original Xiaomi M365 combines electronic braking at the front with a mechanical disc brake at the rear. Before riding, confirm that the brake lever feels firm and that the scooter resists being pushed when the brake is applied.
Common brake problems include:
- a stretched or frayed brake cable;
- worn or contaminated brake pads;
- a bent or misaligned brake disc;
- a sticking brake lever or brake sensor; and
- loose calliper or wheel components.
Stop riding if braking performance has deteriorated, the lever reaches the grip, the cable is damaged or the disc is severely distorted. Brake adjustment affects both stopping performance and wheel drag, so arrange professional assistance if you are uncertain.
Loose Folding Stem or Handlebar Movement
Movement in the stem or folding mechanism must never be ignored. Check that the folding lever closes properly, the safety mechanism engages and there are no cracks, bent parts or missing fasteners.
Do not repeatedly tighten the mechanism to compensate for a worn folding hook, damaged pivot or distorted component. Excessive tightening can also cause damage. If movement returns after adjustment or the scooter has been involved in a collision, arrange an inspection before riding again.
Water Ingress and Cleaning
The Xiaomi M365 has limited water resistance but is not waterproof. Avoid rain, standing water, deep puddles and prolonged outdoor storage. Never immerse or pressure-wash the scooter.
Use a lightly damp cloth for cleaning and keep water away from the dashboard, charging port and deck seals. If water may have entered the scooter, switch it off and do not charge it. Arrange an inspection, particularly if the display, motor, charger or battery behaves abnormally.
Recommended Maintenance Schedule
Repairs That Should Be Left to a Professional
- Battery-pack and battery-management-system faults
- Controller and high-current wiring repairs
- Motor cable and Hall-sensor faults
- Damaged charging ports or melted connectors
- Folding-mechanism wear or frame damage
- Persistent brake faults
- Water-damaged electronics
- Repeated or unexplained error codes
Avoid unsupported firmware modifications, battery bypasses, improvised chargers and unapproved electrical modifications. These can introduce additional risks and make accurate diagnosis more difficult.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I repair a Xiaomi M365 myself?
Owners can perform basic visual checks, inflate tyres and keep the scooter clean. Battery, controller, motor, folding-mechanism and persistent brake faults should be handled by an experienced technician.
Why does my M365 switch on but not move?
The standard M365 normally requires a push start before the throttle activates. If it still does not accelerate once moving, record any error code and inspect the throttle, brake lever and visible motor cable for damage.
What tyre pressure should a Xiaomi M365 use?
Xiaomi’s general maintenance guidance for the standard pneumatic tyres is approximately 45–50 PSI, checked every 20–30 days. Confirm the pressure limit marked on the tyres currently fitted.
Can I use a different charger?
Use only the correct charger approved for the scooter, with the required voltage, polarity, connector and charging characteristics. A physically matching plug does not guarantee compatibility.
Does this guide also apply to the M365 Pro, 1S and Pro 2?
Many inspection and troubleshooting principles are similar, but components, specifications, firmware and fault codes can differ. Identify the exact model before ordering parts or carrying out maintenance.
This guide provides general owner-level information and does not replace the Xiaomi manual or a professional safety inspection. If a fault could affect steering, folding, braking, tyres, the battery or electrical safety, stop using the scooter until it has been properly assessed.
